A Day in the Life of a Strategy Consultant From Deloitte

I have two split email accounts - one is used for store specific correspondence and also the other is used with regard to my general business admin. My email accounts is going to be open and checked every day as it is usually my first approach to contacting store personnel. Sometimes replying and chasing emails can take up the vast majority of day; sometimes I barely have a way to glance over them. On a daily basis is dramatically different, which can be hectic but is the crucial reason why I looked for a profession in consulting.

11: 00 am to 12: 00 pm hours. At the moment i am deploying the new system to eighteen stores every week, so I need make sure that each of the stores have decided to their allocation of Personal computers and printers. Every Thursday you will find there's deadline to send our contractors a list of the computers they need to build for each retail store. Attention to detail is critical as each store provides different requirements. Sometimes the work can be quite monotonous so I will attempt and break it up with a number my other responsibilities; including managing the revisits that certain stores require and conspiring the refurbishment and convenience of old kit that's removed from the stores when we convert them to this new system. The phone is usually ringing with store personnel and our third party vendors wanting updates and raising issues.

12: 00 to help 12: 30pm.
12: 30 to 1: 00 pm. I have a meeting with one of many Consultants on the team to discuss the problems we have been having with the disposal of kit from conversions. We have decided to travel and meet our main contact at the warehouse so that they can improve relations and thus get faster results. This will mean visiting Essex first thing Thursday morning and I have been asked to organise that meeting, take minutes and as preparation familiarise myself with the contract that was finalized so that I'm current.

1: 00 pm to 3: 00 pm. If I have not yet had a reply from my morning e-mails, I will chase them which includes a call to get them to being actioned. Experience has taught me it's better to be polite and pushy in order to get results - the store personnel possess a million and one things to do every day and in many cases are grateful for the reminder. Each time a store's allocation has ended up agreed, there are a number of processes I have to follow to ensure that each store is tracked correctly and the correct information is entered in our database. I'll usually have quite a wide 'to do' list on the run which often includes chasing up issues from the overnight conversions and considering and updating documentation on which I've been doing.

3: 00 pm hours to 4: 00 pm hours. Coffee, check my email, chocolate! Read through the contract I had been given after lunch and attempt to get approval for visit to June from my manager.

4: 00 pm to 8: 00 pm. Mission Control shift. Mission Control manages the technical deployment in the conversions and is an individual point of contact for the engineers on site who'll call in with updates, queries and issues.
