In the morning the first thing I most certainly will usually do is spend half an hour reading, answering and selecting my emails. I have two split email accounts - the first is used for store specific correspondence and also the other is used for my general business admin. My email accounts is going to be open and checked every day as it is usually my first approach to contacting store personnel. Sometimes replying and chasing emails can take up the vast majority of day; sometimes I barely have time to glance over them. Daily is dramatically different, which can be hectic but is the main reason why I looked for a profession in consulting.
11: 00 are to 12: 00 pm hours. At the moment i am deploying the new system to eighteen stores daily, so I need to make sure that each of the stores have allowed us their allocation of Personal computers and printers. Every Thursday there is a deadline to send our contractors a list of the computers they need to build for each retail store. Attention to detail is critical as each store has different requirements. Sometimes the work is incredibly monotonous so I will try and break it up with some of my other responsibilities; including managing the revisits that certain stores require and conspiring the refurbishment and disposal of old kit that's removed from the stores once we convert them to this new system. The phone is usually ringing with store personnel and our alternative party vendors wanting updates and raising issues.
12: 00 to 12: 30pm. Lunch time period! One of the advantages of working for a large company and a big project is may be people you meet, so there is always someone to catch up with over lunch. I actually work opposite a woman who also read Historical past at Edinburgh University but there were never met before. There are actually eight other Analysts working together on this project who are all a comparable age and graduated in the same year from university. Often I'll grab a sandwich and get back to my desk. No-one is watching you clocking in your hours and it still surprises but impresses me the amount we are left to regulate our own time and responsibilities.
